Busy day – here are a bunch of things that I’ve heard…
• Now that Mike D’Antoni and Brad Underwood have said no to Marshall, Eastern Kentucky’s Jeff Neubauer will be the next “hot” name here. Neubauer has actually been a target since the start of the search, but now that Marshall has swung and missed with some bigger names, it looks like they will zero in on Neubauer. We first mentioned Neubauer and Marshall on 4/8 (http://www.hoopdirt.com/blog/997c79eb/marshall-dirt/…), and believe this could get done quickly now.
• I have heard that former Marquette administrative staffers Devin Johnson, Jamie McNeilly, and Lyle Wolf will all join Buzz Williams at Virginia Tech. No word yet on official titles. I’ve also heard that former Marquette assistant Brad Autry will make the move with Williams as well.
• In last night’s blog, I mentioned that James Miller (New Mexico JC Head Coach) and Jared Phay (North Idaho College Head Coach) are finalists at the College of Southern Idaho. I can now confirm that there is a third horse in the race…Utah DBO Norm Parrish is in the mix here as well. Before joining the Ute’s staff three years ago, Parrish was the long-time head coach at Salt Lake City CC – he won the 2009 NJCAA National Championship.
• Crazy situation here…Cowley College (KS) head coach Tommy De Salme has been rehired after being fired on March 24th. CC AD Clark Williams (who fired De Salme) resigned earlier this month. Cowley then hired Shane Larson, who has brought De Salme back.
• Word on the street is that Northeast Mississippi Head Coach Cord Wright has interviewed for Jones County Junior College job. This past season was his first at NEMCC – he has also been an assistant at Louisiana Monore, and North Alabama.
• Merchant Marine head coach Danny Nee has resigned. He had spent four seasons as the head coach there, but was suspended in January. Assistant coach David Muchnick finished the season as the interim head coach, and will keep that title while the search begins. Nee was also the head coach at Ohio, Nebraska, Robert Morris and Duquesne.
• I can confirm that David Kaplansky has been named as the head coach at Gavilan College (CA). He was most recently the head coach at San Benito High (CA) HS.
