Daily Dirt – 4/25/12

Here’s today’s dirt….

• I have heard that High Point assistant Mike Balado is out and could be involved at Florida International. The Miami native had interviewed with Isaiah Thomas before he was canned last earlier this month. Balado played at St. Thomas (Miami) and has worked at Miami, Florida Atlantic, Nova Southerastern, and Miami Dade College.

• Chris St. Clair has been named the men’s basketball coach at Cypress College. He replaces Paul Bottiaux who recently retired. St. Clair had spent the past six seasons as an assistant at Cypress. Still waiting for the official release on this one.

• Doug Schaffer will be the “new” head coach at Lake Michigan College. He was the HC there from 1998 to 2009. In the interim, he served as the director of the Benton Harbor Boys & Girls Club. Schaffer will also assume the role of director of admissions and recruitment for the college.

• Multiple sources have reported that former NBA center Tree Rollins will be the next head coach at State College of Florida. Rollins was the 14th pick in the 1977 NBA draft, and spent 18 seasons with the Atlanta Hawks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Detroit Pistons, Houston Rockets and Orlando Magic. He spent time as an assistant in the WNBA with the Mystics, and was the interim head coach there in 2006.

• Brevard College will announce their new head coach tomorrow. They are replacing Mark Prosser who departed to join Pat Kelsey’s new staff at Winthrop. No word on who the choice is, but I’m working on it!
