Daily Dirt – 4/26/11

Here’s what I’ve got this morning….

I said yesterday that Shenandoah University is going to announce their new head coach at a Wednesday press conference. I’ve heard the choice here will most likely be Air Force assistant Rob Pryor. According to a great source, he is headed to Virginia today to prepare for Wednesday’s announcement. Pryor is familiar with the area having spent four years at Langley AFB and getting his Master’s Degree at nearby William & Mary. He has spent five seasons on the Air Force staff. Other names that I’ve heard that are (were) in the running for Shenandoah are Navy assistant Aaron Goodman and former Virginia associate head women’s coach Tim Taylor.

New Miami head coach Jim Larranaga is going to meet with former NBA star Kenny Anderson either Thursday or Friday about a spot on the Hurricanes staff. Larranaga and Anderson both played for Jack Curran at Archbishop Molloy High School in Queens. Anderson has been trying to get in at the college level for a few years, so this move makes sense. I’m not sure what role Anderson would fill however. I can confirm that Larranaga has asked all three of his assistants from George Mason to come to Miami with him (they are not going to be retained at GMU, so it’s the right thing to do). I’ve also heard that he wants to keep current Miami DBO Mike Summey on staff.

With Northwestern assistant Mitch Henderson taking the Princeton job, there are a few names circulating as his replacements. I’ve heard that current DBO Joe Kennedy may be elevated. He played at NU from 2004-2007 and worked at the White House before returning as the DBO. He is the son of former Towson head coach Pat Kennedy. I’ve also heard that former NU sniper Craig Moore is interested in the job. He has been playing overseas since graduation, and is looking to get in to coaching.

South Alabama assistant Mike Brown may be in line for a spot on Rob Murphy’s new staff at Eastern Michigan. Brown is a Michigan native who knows the league (worked at Kent State), and has experience as a head coach (Motlow State CC and Schoolcraft College). He played at Wayne State (MI) and has been on the South Alabama staff since 2009.
