Catching-up on a bunch of things…
I’ve heard the search at Central Connecticut is wrapping up this week. Sounds like the four finalists met with the “upper administration” yesterday (and maybe the last one today). I’ve heard a decision could be made by tonight, and announced shortly after that. The final group includes 3 MM (LM?) D1 assistants, and a small college head coach. More as I hear it.
I’ve heard from multiple people that Garden City CC (KS) head coach Cole Dewey is in the mix to join the staff at Texas A&M Corpus Christi. Last season was his first at GCCC, and he was the head coach at Otero JC (CO) before that.
The search to replace Steve Eck, who recently retired at JUCO powerhouse Hutchinson CC (KS) is underway. One name that I keep hearing here is former ETSU head coach Jason Shay. Shay resigned after one season at ETSU earlier this spring, and has also been an assistant at North Dakota, Northwest Florida State College, Tennessee, Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Working on a few more names here as well – heard at least one Midwest D1 assistant is involved..
New UTEP head coach Joe Golding has added Jeremy Cox and Bryen Spriggs to his staff. Cox is a coaching veteran who was most recently the associate head coach at Stephen F. Austin, and has also had stops at Southern Miss, Texas A&M, Kentucky, South Florida, Nebraska, and Texas Tech. Spriggs was Golding’s special assistant at Abilene Christian last season, and was the head coach at Community College of Beaver County (PA) before that.
Talvin Hester, who went from Louisiana Tech to Colorado State earlier this spring, will now land at Texas Tech. He confirmed the move with a TWEET earlier today. Hester has also had stops at Oral Roberts, Houston, Texas State, SFA, San Jose State, and Prairie View A&M.
Ben Johnson, who had been an assistant Portland has been hired as an assistant at San Jose State. He had been at UP since 2016, and has also worked at Washington State and Wisconsin Green Bay.
A few names that I’ve heard involved in the search at JUCO Northwest Tech (KS): Clarendon College (TX) assistant Jay Bradley, New Mexico Highlands assistant Andrew Davidson, and Cowley College (KS) assistant Eric Nitsche.
