Some long-time college coaches headed to the prep ranks…
Brock Erickson will take over as the head coach at Layton Christian Academy (UT). Erickson had spent the past two seasons as the associate head coach at UTRGV and was the head coach at D3 Nichols College before that (73-14 in 3 seasons). He has also worked as a D1 assistant at UIC, Bryant, Kent State, and Iona.
Veteran D1 assistant Scott Combs has been hired as the head coach at Paoli HS (IN). Combs spent last season as the associate head coach at Ball State, and has also been an assistant at James Madison, Morehead State, Martin Methodist, and Austin Peay. Combs also spent six years as the head coach NAIA Martin Methodist.
Caesar Rodney HS (DE) has named Eric Skeeters as their new head basketball coach. Skeeters was the head coach at Delaware State from 2018-21 and was a D1 assistant at a bunch of places before that. His stops included, UMBC, George Mason, South Florida, Towson, Virginia Tech, Youngstown State, and Coppin State.
Ryan Devlin, who spent the last four seasons as an assistant at San Diego, was hired as the head coach for Oak Hill Academy’s Gold Team. Prior to his time at USD, Devlin was an assistant at George Washington and Siena, and also worked as the Director of Player Development at Penn State. He has prep school experience, having spent time at both Montrose Christian School (MD) and Bowling Brook Preparatory School (MD).
I can confirm that on campus interviews are starting this week to replace Jimmie Williams at Anderson (SC). More on this search as I hear it.
Last week, I mentioned names who have had Zooms at NAIA Webber International (FL). It now sounds like Keiser assistant Max Spinner has to be added to the list. He has been on the KU staff for the past seven seasons and was the head coach at Boca Raton HS before that.
I have heard that interviews are underway this week at NJCAA D1 Eastern Arizona College. One name that I’ve heard is NWAC Umpqua CC head coach Daniel Leeworthy. He has been at UCC for the past 14-years and is currently all-time winningest coach in program history. He has also been an assistant at Ohio, Colorado University and BYU-Hawaii.
ICYMI from last night…D3 Earlham is open again…they’re looking for their 4th head coach in the last three seasons. More here -> D3 DIRT.
