Busy day so far – here are a bunch of things that I’ve heard…
• I mentioned SFA head coach Brad Underwood yesterday as Plan A at Southern Mississippi and Murray State head coach Steve Prohm as Plan B. It sounds like another name is now picking up some steam. I have heard from a bunch of guys that new Southeast Louisiana head coach Jay Ladner is in the hunt. He got the SE LA job a few weeks ago – he won NJCAA National Championship this past season at Jones County JC. Ladner is a Southern Miss alum who played on their 1987 NIT Championship team. I have heard that this is Underwood’s gig if he wants it, but the longer it goes, the more the other names come into play.
• I have heard that Central Connecticut DBO Paul O’Connor will accept a similar spot at Kennesaw State. The former Providence GA had been at Central Connecticut for one season.
• It sounds like Florida assistant video Coordinator Billy O’Meara will become the head video coordinator at Minnesota. Before joining the Florida staff in 2011, he was a manager at Louisville.
• I have heard that Central Missouri associate head coach Brad Loos will be making the move to Missouri with Kim Anderson. Loos had been at CMU for the past 12 seasons. His father is current Austin Peay head coach Dave Loos.
• Here’s an interesting one…word on the street is that Our Lady of the Lake University – an NAIA school in San Antonio – had Jim Harrick on campus last Tuesday to interview for their vacant head coaching spot. The 75-year old Harrick spent 23 seasons as a DI head coach (Pepperdine, UCLA, URI, Georgia), and amassed 470 career wins. His 1994-95 squad won the National Championship. He last coached a college game in 2003, and then worked in the NBA and D-League until 2006.
• I can confirm that Nebraska Wesleyan head coach Cam Schuknecht has resigned and will become an assistant at Luther College. He had been the head coach at NWU since 2006 and was an assistant at the school for two years before that. While he was an assistant, he worked for current Luther head coach Mark Franzen.
