A few quick things to kick off the week…
No secret here…former Miami (OH) head coach Jack Owens is headed to Ohio State as an assistant. He had been the Redhawks head coach since 2017, and was a long-time assistant in the Big Ten at Purdue before that.
The search at Cleveland State is winding down. I’ve heard that CSU’s President and AD were in New Orleans conducting interviews. I’ve heard few different things here – one camp thinks this is it, while one believes there will be some on campus interviews this week. CSA has been helping to run this one. More on this as I hear it.
The long search at Western Michigan is also reportedly near an end. It sounds like WMU’s AD was in NO this weekend, and met with a bunch of guys (and according to some has focused in on one of them). As I’ve previously mentioned, DHR is running this one.
Word on the street is that D2 Mars Hill will name their new head basketball coach sometime this week. Most interesting name that I’ve heard here is former South Carolina standout Larry Davis. Currently the head coach at York Prep (SC), Davis spent two seasons playing at UNC before transferring to USC where he was elected to the HOF in 2017. He also spent time as an assistant at D2 Newberry (in the SAC with Mars Hill). More on this as I hear it.
I have heard that NJCAA D1 Palm Beach State is also wrapping up their search. It sounds like a current D2 head coach from New England is the leader right now, but a few other current D1 guys are lurking.
The search at D2 Lincoln University (MO) is now down to two, and interviews have wrapped up. It sounds like one of the finalists is Morehouse College associate head coach Alfred Jordan. Jordan was hired at Morehouse last fall after spending two seasons at Little Rock, and eight at Clark Atlanta. Working on the other name now.
I can confirm that Mackenzie Krowiorz has been named as the head coach at NJCAA D3 Hibbing CC (MN). Krowiorz has most recently served as an assistant at NAIA Presentation College (SD). He will replace David Wilson who spent one season as the head coach at HCC. An official announcement is expected shortly.
