Daily Dirt – 4/5/19

Some things to wrap up a busy week…

  • An early name to keep an eye on at Presbyterian is College of Charleston assistant Quinton Ferrell. The South Carolina native has been at C of C for the past five seasons, and also worked as an assistant at The Citadel. He is a Presbyterian alum who also started his career as an assistant there.
  • Matt Doherty’s name has been making the rounds surrounding the job at Elon. The former head coach at North Carolina, Notre Dame, SMU, and Florida Atlantic has most recently been working for the A-10.
  • Some names at Buffalo: Tennessee associate head coach Rob Lanier (also being mentioned at Georgia State), Oklahoma assistant Carlin Hartman, Marquette associate head coach Stan Johnson, Michigan State assistant Dane Fife, and at least one current DI head coach. Parker is running this search.
  • It sounds like Casper CC (WY) head coach Dan Russell is in the mix to join new head coach Danny Sprinkle’s staff at Montana State. He went 32-3 this past season, and has killed it in his five seasons as Casper.
  • Staying in the JUCO world…Cape Fear CC (NC) head coach Ryan Mantlo has stepped away from basketball to focus on his duties as the AD at the college. Long-time assistant coach Mark Lane has been promoted to head coach replacing Mantlo.
  • More JUCO dirt…I can confirm that Central CC (NE) head coach Jerry Drymon has resigned. He just wrapped up his fifth season at CCC – he had also spent six seasons as the head coach at Clarke University (IA). Sounds like he’s entering the private sector.

  • I have heard from multiple sources that new Lander University head coach Drew Richards will add Mount Olive assistant Justin Griffith to his staff. Griffith had been at Mount Olive since 2015, and also worked as an assistant at Winston Salem State.
