Daily Dirt – 4/6/22

Story: Adam Nelson (@HD_DirtKing)

I can confirm that Lafayette will hire Mike McGarvey as their associate head coach. McGarvey has spent the past four seasons as the head coach at D3 Lycoming (PA). Prior to his time at Lycoming, McGarvey spent seven seasons as an assistant at Colgate, where he served on the same staff as new Lafayette head coach Mike Jordan. An official announcement is expected shortly.

I have heard from multiple sources that phone interviews have taken place at VMI. Working to confirm names. Sounds like at least one former D1 head coach in the mix. This one is moving very quickly.

Names that I’ve heard that are in the mix for assistant spots on the new staff at Northwestern State include Moberly Area CC assistant Tim Ward and Memphis DBO Rodney Hamilton. More on this one as I hear it.

It sounds like the leader at NAIA Midland University is former Omaha assistant Tyler Erwin. The Midland alum had been at Omaha for the past 13 seasons, and was not retained when new head coach Chris Crutchfield took over. Word on the street is that one of the other finalists is a current D2 head coach with ties to the program.

It sounds like the search at D3 Shenandoah has moved to the campus round. The names that I’ve heard are: Virginia Wesleyan assistant Nick Doyle, Johns Hopkins assistant Ricky Hernandez, Randolph-Macon associate head coach Dave Matturro, and Longwood assistant Ronnie Thompson.
