Daily Dirt – 4/9/12

A few quick items to start the week….

Sounds like Kansas head coach Bill Self has found Danny Mannings replacement. Self has reached out to Florida assistant Norm Roberts – and it sounds like a deal is in place. Roberts, who spent 6 seasons as the head coach at St. John’s, has previously worked for Self at Illinois, Tulsa, and Oral Roberts. Look for the official announcement either late tonight, or early tomorrow.

Word on the street is that is the Kyle Green may be headed back to Northern Iowa. Green resigned last week as the head coach at Wisconsin Eau Claire after one season there. The former Northern Iowa assistant has said publicly that he is headed back home to Iowa. It just so happens that UNI assistant Ben Johnson resigned last week to accept a position at Nebraska. Green was an assistant at UNI from 2001-2003, and 2006-2011. Stay tuned for more on this one….

The “hot” name to replace Green at UWEC is Eric Gardow. He is an Eau Claire native who played at UWEC (was a member of the 2000 Final Four squad). He was a finalist for the job last spring when Green got it. It sounds like he has a lot of alumni support this time around. He spent last season coaching in Japan.

Speaking of Wisconsin schools…I’ve mentioned before that the three finalists for Northland (WI) are Minnesota assistant Ron Jirsa, Iowa Enegry (NBDL) assistant Bruce Wilson and former Minnesota State Moorhead head coach Stu Engen. I’ve now heard from multiple sources that Engen is the leader here. It sounds like it is his gig if he wants it, and Northland is just waiting for an answer.
