Daily Dirt – 4/21/17

Finally back from balmy Quebec City. Here are a few things that I heard while watching nothing but hockey highlights on TSN…

  • Word on the street is that the search at Presbyterian is focusing on five candidates. Three names that I’ve heard are Charleston Southern associate head coach B.J. McKie, Wofford associate head coach Dustin Kearns, and UNC Asheville assistant coach Sean Dixon (a Presbyterian alum). There is currently an interim AD at Presbyterian, but it sounds like this could get done before the full-time AD is hired.

  • I can confirm that DII Franklin Pierce University (NH) assistant coach Antonio Anderson has resigned in order to become the head coach at Lynn English HS (MA). The Lynn native played for John Calipari at Memphis, and was a member of the 2008 squad which reached the National Championship game against Kansas. Anderson who also spent time as a DIII assistant at both Salem State and Wheelock, was the 2009 Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year, was a two-time Conference USA All-Defensive Team selection.

  • I have heard from a great source that DII West Chester University (PA) assistant coach Ben Kay will become the next head basketball coach at Penn State Brandywine. Kay had spent the past two seasons at West Chester, and was an assistant at Immaculata University from 2011-15. An official announcement is expected shortly.

  • Deddric Tarver has been hired as the head basketball coach at Gadsden State CC (AL). He replaces Scott Ginn who was let go following the season. Tarver was an assistant in the program last season, and has also been an assistant at Lawson State CC (AL).

  • Matt Mahar is no longer an assistant at DIII Rhode Island College. The former head coach at Chaminade University and Assumption College spent one season Mike Byrnes’ staff. I have heard that he will be replaced by former Pine Manor College assistant Eric Alleyne. He is an RIC alum who played there for current UMaine Head Coach Bob Walsh.
