Daily Dirt – 4/26/16

A few things that I’ve heard today…

  • New UTRGV head coach Lew Hill will add Kenya Crandell (Montana State) and Caleb Villarreal (Southern Mississippi) to his staff. Crandell had been at MSU since 2014 – he was an ops guy at Oregon before that. Crandell has also been an assistant at Southern Utah, Sacramento State, Nebraska-Omaha, and Northern Colorado. Villarreal spent last season as the video coordinator for Doc Sadler at Southern Miss. He also worked as a student at Texas Tech for Billy Gillispie, Chris Walker and Tubby Smith.
  • Mike Dunleavy has hired Doug Stewart as the associate head coach at Tulane. Stewart was an assistant at Nevada last season, and has also worked at Oregon State (2008-14), and Brown (2006-2008).
  • Richie Riley, who was officially hired at Nicholls State yesterday, is already assembling his staff. I have heard that one of his early additions is Clemson video coordinator Austin Claunch. Last season was Claunch’s first as the video coordinator at Clemson after serving as a graduate manager there for the two previous years. He also spent one season as the director of player development at George Mason.
  • Great hire made at the JC level – gotta wait until tomorrow to mention it though.  Stay tuned…
