Daily Dirt – 4/28/17

Some things that I’ve heard as we head in to the weekend…

  • Sounds like some administrative changes at Nebraska…Director of Basketball Operations Teddy Owens has left the staff to become the head coach at Carrollwood Day School in Tampa. He had been the DBO for the past three seasons, and was a GA at Oklahoma before that. He is the son of former Kansas head basketball coach Ted Owens. I have also heard that Director of Player Development Ali Farokhmanesh is headed to Drake where he will become an assistant coach. The former standout at Northern Iowa had been Tim Miles staff for the past three seasons.

  • New Portland State head coach Barret Peery will retain both Chris Skinkis and Jase Coburn. Skinkis joined the PSU staff prior to last season after spending two seasons at NC Central. He had previously served as an assistant to Peery when they were at Indian Hills CC (IA). Coburn has been on the Vikings staff since 2013, and was at Howard JC (TX) before that. No word yet on the third assistant.

  • Former Quinnipiac assistant coach Sean Doherty has landed as the head coach at Hamden Hall HS (CT). He had spent the past ten seasons on Tom Moore’s staff at QU before they were released earlier in the spring. Doherty also spent four seasons (2003-07) as the head coach at DIII Salem State where he went 91-20.

  • I have heard that the search at DIII Maine Presque Isle is moving along and that on-campus interviews are almost complete. It sounds like Connecticut College assistant coach Dan Kane has been on campus. He played at Maine Farmington and also served as an assistant coach there. More names as I hear them.

  • Interviews at DIII Shenandoah are not complete yet as I previously reported. I have heard more guys have been on campus this week, including Emory associate head coach Chris McHugh. Prince George’s CC head coach Brian Johnson has interviewed as well. The head coach will be chosen from a group of 6 that also includes a current DIII head coach.

  • I have heard that Interviews at DIII Elizabethtown are underway with at least three guys in this week. The names that I’ve heard are Navy assistant Jeromy Yetter, Pitt Bradford head coach Britt Moore, and former Bloomsburg assistant (and E-Town alum) Brad Karli. Sounds like a decision could be made next week.

  • Blue Mountain CC (OR) Head Coach Gavin Burt has resigned. Last season was his first as the head coach at BMCC after spending three as assistant at the college. We should have the job posting shortly.

  • I can confirm that Mark John is no longer the head coach at Penn State Fayette. He had been there since 2010 and was a high school coach in the area before that.
