Daily Dirt – 5/1/14

Today’s “dirt”…

• I’m on double secret probation with this one, but I can confirm that the search Maine has really ramped up. It sounds like two America East assistants have already been eliminated from the mix. Also, I have heard there is at least one CAA assistant with head coaching experience on campus as early as today. More when I am given the green light…

• I mentioned in yesterday’s blog that Jim Harrick was in the mix at Our Lady of the Lake University (TX) [http://hoopdirt.com/blog/8c846f68/daily-dirt-4-30-14/…]. I can now confirm that he has withdrawn his name from consideration. Getting back into it at 75 would have been a challenge for Harrick.

• I have heard from a good source that former Clemson guard Tanner Smith will become a graduate assistant at Mississippi State. The former three year starter for the Tigers has played overseas since his graduation in 2012.

• The search to replace Mark Downey at West Alabama is underway. It sounds like Paine College head coach Jimmy Link is in the mix. He just wrapped up his fourth season at Paine. Link has also worked as an assistant at North Florida, Newberry, and Flagler. It also sounds like current assistant Michael Floyd is in the hunt as well. The former South Alabama assistant joined Downey’s staff prior to last season. I will pass along more names here as I hear them.
