Daily Dirt – 5/10/23

Story: Adam Nelson (@HD_DirtKing)

I have heard that USC Upstate assistant Anthony Johnson is on the move and is headed to Ole Miss in some type of admin/support role. Last season was Johnson’s first at Upstate after serving as the director of development and recruiting at Georgia State. At Ole Miss, Johnson will reunite with Chris Beard – he was a GA at Texas Tech when Beard was the head coach there.

Speaking of USC Upstate…I have heard that Spartanburg Methodist head coach Nori Johnson is the leader to replace Johnson on Dave Dickerson’s staff at Upstate. Johnson has been the head coach at SMC for the past six seasons where he put together a 103-61 record. More on this one soon…

I can confirm that Tyler Parker is out as an assistant at South Alabama. Parker joined the USA staff back in 2018 as the DBO, and was elevated to assistant coach in 2019. No word yet on possible a replacement.

D2 Johnson C. Smith’s Stephen Joyner, Sr. has stepped down from his AD duties, but will remain as the head basketball coach. Joyner had been the AD for the past 18 years, and will now focus solely on basketball – he’s just 14 wins shy of 600. More on this move HERE.

A D3 coach doing to opposite of Joyner…D3 Waynesburg head basketball coach Tim Fusina has been named as the AD at the college (and will remain as the head coach). Fusina has been with the Yellow Jackets for the past four seasons, and has also been head coach at Cal Lutheran and Centenary (NJ). More HERE.

D3 Rivier College has hired Bruce Marchand as an assistant coach. He most recently spent two seasons as an assistant at JUCO Quinsigamond College, and has also worked with the Boston Warriors (AAU). I can confirm that he has already hit the recruiting trail hard in New England.
