Today’s Daily Dirt – enjoy!
Vermont has named John Becker as the interim head coach. As I’ve mentioned before, he is the only in-house candidate being considered for the job. Associate head coach Hajj Turner is going to George Washington with Mike Lonergan. The interim title keeps a captain at the wheel as the ship heads into the summer.
Speaking of in house candidates, it sounds like Texas A&M associate head coach Scott Spinelli is getting some consideration to replace Mark Turgeon. Spinelli has been at A&M for four seasons, and was with Turgeon at Wichita State before that. I’ve also heard Tulsa head coach Doug Wojcik’s name come up in conversations about A&M. He is 123-78 in 6 seasons at Tulsa. You can add him and Spinelli to the list I published yesterday: http://hoopdirt.com/blog/81e19cc7/texas-aampm-rumors/…
It sounds like Keith Booth and Rob Ehsan will not be a part of the new staff at Maryland. They were both on Gary Williams staff for the past few years. Current assistant Bino Ransom may be the only hold-over from the Williams regime. It’s also rumored that Mark Turgeon is pursuing K-State assistant Dalonte Hill. Hill was the head coach of the DC Assault and would bring some big-time local AAU connections to the program. He is currently the highest paid assistant in the country (around $420K), so we’ll see if the Terps can pony-up the dough to bring him back east.
Staying on the topic of AAU guys, Atlanta Celtics coach Korey McCray is involved with an assistant spot at UCLA. McCray was close to joining the Georgia Tech staff a few seasons ago. Sources indicate that this could become official in the next few weeks.
Manhattan will add Rashon Burno as an assistant. He spent last season as an assistant at Towson. He was a standout at St. Anthony’s for Bob Hurley and went on to play at DePaul.
