Daily Dirt – 5/13/25

Story: Adam Nelson (@HD_DirtKing)

Catching-up on a few quick things while hoping JT isn’t out for the 2025-26 season and wondering why the Karen Read trial was unexpectedly canceled for the day…

I have heard that Kentucky graduate assistant Leander Ridgeway is on the move and will become the assistant video coordinator for the Utah Jazz. Prior to his time at UK, Ridgeway worked with current Wildcats head coach Mark Pope as a GA at BYU. Ridgeway played collegiately at Asbury University (KY).

Interviews are underway at D2 Midwestern State (TX). Names that I have heard so far include Troy assistant Greg Young (A Texas native and former head coach at UT Arlington), Abilene Christian assistant Jon Trilli (a MSU alum, and former assistant there), current MSU assistant Casey Weitzel, and one more D1 assistant from the south.

D2 Ferris State is done. They are hiring a guy with a ton of D2 HC experience and a big-time record. Hope to roll with this one shortly.

A name making the rounds at recently opened D3 College of New Jersey is St. Peter’s Director of Basketball Operations Evan Elberg. Elberg had previously spent four seasons as an assistant at TCNJ, and has also worked at Gettysburg, Washington College (MD), and Drew.

Word on the street is that the search at D3 NYU is down to three. Working to confirm names, but sounds like an Ivy League assistant and a Patriot League assistant are in the final group.

I have heard that Yale associate head coach Justin Simon was a finalist at Middlebury, and some believe him to be in the mix at Carnegie Melon as well. Other names at Carnegie Melon include a current D3 head coach from PA and one from NY. More on this one soon.

On Sunday, I posted about D3 Colby College opening (D3 DIRT). Still no official announcement from Colby, but this email went out to “Friends of Colby Athletics” from Mules AD Amanda DeMartino:
