A few small college head coaches about to be hired…

• Former San Francisco head coach Phil Mathews will become the head coach at Riverside City College (CA). Mathews had spent the past three seasons as an assistant at UCLA and was an assistant at Nebraska before that. In addition to being the head coach at USF (139-123 from 1995-2004), he has also been the boss at San Bernardino Valley College and Ventura College. The official announcement is expected next week.

• I have heard that Mt. Ida College (MA) will hire former Siena assistant Ben Davis as the new head coach. Davis was at Siena since 2011, and was an assistant at Stonehill (MA) before that. It sounds like he beat out three other finalists: Matt Adams (former assistant at Pfeiffer and Franklin Pierce), Anthony Leonelli (assistant coach Rhode Island College), and Chuck Bridge (assistant coach LIU).

• Johnson College (PA) has named Jonathan Kulas as their new head coach. He was an assistant at the school last year and has also been an assistant at Marywood (PA).
