Daily Dirt – 5/18/12

Some "dirt" to wrap-up the week…

• According to multiple reports, Washington State assistant Jeff Hironaka has been re-assigned. He will now serve as the director of player personnel/special assistant to the head coach. Hironaka has been on Ken Bone’s staff at WSU for the past three seasons, and spent 11 seasons as Bone’s assistant at Seattle Pacific. He took over for Bone at SPU and went 134-67 in 7 seasons. It sounds like Bone wants a recruiter with connections outside of the Pacific Northwest.

• Wichita State assistant Dana Ford has been offered the associate head coach position at Illinois State. Ford is an ISU alum who has also worked at Chipola JC and Tennessee State. It also sounds like new ISU head coach Dan Muller will not retain assistant Paris Parham. It is unclear whether the other assistants – Rob Judson and Anthony Beane will be rehired.

• Sounds like former College of Charleston assistant Fred Dupree is involved with a spot on Jim Baron’s new staff at Canisius. Dupree has spent the past six seasons at C of C. He is a 1998 Canisius graduate. Dupree was a member of the 1995 squad that reached the finals of the Postseason NIT and the 1996 squad that played Utah in the NCAA Tournament. He served as team captain his senior year.

• I have heard that West Virginia Wesleyan has started interviewing candidates on campus. A few of the names that have popped up are: John Meeks (head coach Wallace State), Pat Beilein (DBO Bradley) and Bob Simmons (associate head coach Ball State). A new AD was just hired earlier this week. It sounds like the committee will make a recommendation to him, and the decision could come quickly.

• Devin Eighmey has left Peru State University (NE) to take a job at North Central Missouri College. He had been on the Peru State staff for one season after finishing his playing career there. Eighmey began his playing career at North Central Missouri where he was a two time all-region player and team captain.
