Catching up on a bunch of things that I heard over the weekend…
• On 5/12, I mentioned some names who were believed to be involved at West Alabama (http://hoopdirt.com/blog/896dedae/daily-dirt-5-12-14/…). I have now heard that the job has been offered to one of the candidates that I mentioned. According to two separate sources, Arkansas-Monticello head coach Allen Sharpe has received an offer. No word yet on whether he has accepted the position.
• It sounds like Dan D’Antoni’s staff at Marshall is complete. We had previously mentioned that former Duke standout and NBA player Chris Duhon would be hired – that has been confirmed. It also sounds like Mark Cline (assistant) and John Janovsky (DBO) – both are hold overs from Tom Herrion’s staff – have been hired as well. Finally, veteran Scott Rigot has joined the staff. He has been an assistant at Kentucky, South Carolina, UAB, Duquesne and Hawaii. The official announcement is expected shortly.
• I can confirm that Brewton-Parker head coach Jarvis Smith has resigned and will become a HS coach in Georgia. He had spent the past two seasons as the head coach at Brewton-Parker (16-38). The BPC alum was the head coach at Robert Toomes HS (GA) before returning to his alma mater in 2012.
• I have heard that Believe Prep (Rock Hill, SC) head coach Tyson Waterman is in the mix to become the 3rd assistant at Southeast Louisiana. Waterman was a standout at Winthrop and is a Hall-of-Famer there.
• Word on the street is that Tyler Laurie will become the new video coordinator at the College of Charleston. Laurie has worked previously as a graduate assistant at Temple, and in basketball operations with the Delaware 87ers of the D-League.
• It sounds like Ole Miss graduate manager Jonathan Nevol may join the new staff at Jones County JC (MS). New JCJC head coach Rahim Lockhart is a former Ole Miss standout.
