Daily Dirt – 5/20/11

Some dirt as we roll into the weekend. Also, working with a great source and should have a list of candidates at Radford posted by the end of the day….

Steve Prohm appears to be the leader to replace Billy Kennedy at Murray State. Prohm has been on the Racers staff for the past five seasons, and he worked under Kennedy for 12 seasons (Centenary and SE Louisiana). He has the backing of the players as well. If for some reason he does not get the job, he will have a place on Kennedy’s staff at Texas A&M. Other names that have come up with this search are South Carolina head coach Darrin Horn and Florida assistant John Pelphrey. Not sure how much longer this search will go on.

The search is well under way for the next head coach at Alaska-Fairbanks. I’ve heard that interviews will start today – via Skype (hard to fly all of the candidates to Alaska!) There will be 4-8 candidates interviewed and that will then be narrowed to two. The two candidates will then be flown to Fairbanks on May 25 and will be scheduled to have their final on-campus interviews on May 26. The search committee is made up of six members, all with strong ties to the program. They are: Harry Davis, Mike Hajdukovich, Bart LeBon, Kevin McHenry, Al Svenningson and Joe Tremarello.

I can confirm that Illinois Central College assistant coach Tim Sack is leaving his position after 21 seasons. He will become the Director of Basketball Operations for the Midwest Flames – a new semi-pro team in Peoria.

Central Baptist College has scheduled a news conference for Monday at 10:00am where they will announce the new head coach. The new guy will replace Josh Austin who accepted a similar position at Williams Baptist College earlier this month. I’ll post the official announcement once it’s released on Monday.
