Daily Dirt – 5/26/11

Here’s what I have today….

Penn State has hired Eddie Fogler to help with their search. Fogler most recently helped with the search at Towson. Some new names that have surfaced over the past few days are Boston University head coach Pat Chambers, Drexel head coach Bruiser Flint, Rider head coach Tommy Dempsey, and former BC head coach Al Skinner. You can add them to my original list: http://hoopdirt.com/blog/cd860305/early-penn-state-names/…

The search for a new head coach at Essex County College (NJ) is in full swing. My sources tell me that Corey Lowery (former Middlesex [NJ] Community College head coach) and Pernell Hosier (former TCI [NY] head coach) both have interviews next week and the new head coach will be named after that.

Staying in the great state of Snooki….former St. Benedict’s Prep (NJ) assistant coach Billy Diamond will be named Associate Head Coach at Berkeley College in New Jersey on June 1st.

More prep news….Former Montverde Academy (FL) head coach Kevin Sutton has been named assistant at George Washington University. Sutton is a native of the DMV area, having played at James Madison, and coached at Flint Hill, St. John’s Prospect Hall, Old Dominion University, and Montrose Christian. In 8 seasons at Montverde, Sutton was 186-33 and had 55 players earn college scholarships. His 2007 team went 30-0 and were named national champions. His 2010 team went 25-5, finished #5 in the country, and were runners-up for the ESPN RISE NHSI title.

Montverde assistant Alton Clark will join the staff at VCU as a graduate assistant. Clark, 26, handled all the advanced scouting and post player development in 2 seasons at Montverde. The Indianapolis native has also been an assistant at Lees-McRae College.

Last night, the school board in Springfield, OH approved the hiring of former Toledo head coach Stan Joplin as the new boy’s basketball coach at Springfield High School. He will also serve as the dean of students. In his 12 seasons at Toledo, he won 202 games. He also spent six seasons as an assistant at Michigan State. Pretty good get for Springfield HS.

I have gotten quite a few emails about the Plymouth State job that we posted yesterday. YES, it is a PART-TIME job – it had been full-time, but it is now only part-time. Pretty tough gig in The Little East – one of the toughest conferences in New England.
