Daily Dirt – 5/29/12

I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day Weekend! Here are a few things that I’ve heard over the past few days…

• I can confirm that Marshall assistant Jorge Fernandez has resigned. According to multiple sources, he has returned to Florida citing family reasons. He had spent one season on Tom Herrion’s staff at Marshall. The Florida native had been that associate head coach at Miami, and also an assistant at Central Florida and South Alabama. No word yet on his successor.

• Marquette assistant Aki Collins is in line to replace Jack Murphy as an assistant at Memphis. Murphy departed earlier in the spring to become the head coach at Northern Arizona. Collins has been at Marquette for the past four seasons.

• I have heard that Matthew Healing is involved with the DBO spot at NJIT. Healing spent two seasons as an assistant at Vassar College – before that an assistant at Centenary College (NJ). Prior to coaching at the collegiate level, Healing coached boys basketball at Randolph High School in New Jersey.

• Word is Jay Walton has left Lipscomb. Walton had been on the Lipscomb staff for 13 seasons. USC-Upstate assistant Kyle Perry is being mentioned as a possible replacement. Perry has been at Upstate since 2009 and has also worked at SC State, College of Charleston, and Carson-Newman.
