DAILY DIRT – 5/29/26

Story: Adam Nelson (@HD_DirtKing)

I can confirm that Bryant will add Zavier Anderson as an assistant coach. He had spent the past five seasons on the staff at FIU. He also worked at UAB and the Citadel and served as a GA at VCU. Bryant will also elevate Morgan Williams to assistant coach. Williams was the head of player development and advanced scouting on the Bulldogs staff last year. He has also been at Seton Hall and St. Peters.

Speaking of Bryant…this one has been making the rounds for a little while, but I am finally getting confirmation from great sources that former Bryant head coach Jared Grasso has joined the staff at Hampton. Grasso, who was the head coach at Bryant from 2018-23 was most recently the head coach at The Knox School (NY). He has also been an assistant at Iona, Fordham, Quinnipiac, and Hartford. Not sure why an announcement hasn’t been made yet, but sounds like he’s already hit the road recruiting.

I have heard that Sean Smith will depart the staff at South Dakota and head to Northern Illinois. Smith had spent two seasons on the USD staff and was previously the head coach at D3 North Park University. He was the 2023 D3Hoops.com National Coach of the Year after leading NPU to a 24 win season and a CCIW title.

Staying in South Dakota…It sounds like South Dakota State assistant Cole Christian will join the staff at North Texas. Last season was Christian’s first at SDSU. He has also been an assistant at Murray State, the DBO at Akron and Tennessee Martin, and a GA at Iowa State.

Cameron Henderson has departed the Abilene Christian staff and has become the head coach at Catholic High School in Little Rock (AR). Henderson had spent the past three seasons at ACU and has also been an assistant at Arkansas-Pine Bluff , Connors State College, and Central Oklahoma.

It sounds like Max Rice will join his father’s staff at Boise State as an assistant coach. The younger Rice played for the Broncos from 2019-25 and has most recently been playing professionally in Australia.

Former Winston-Salem State head coach Corey Thompson has been hired as the head coach at Lexington Senior High School (NC). Thompson, a WSSU alum, had led the Rams program for the past two seasons before a change was made this past February.
