Daily Dirt – 5/3/22

A bunch of things that I have heard…

Nicholls State assistant Stevie Taylor is on the move, and will become the Director of Basketball Operations at Toledo. Taylor was hired at Nicholls last summer following a two-year stint as an assistant at Langston University. He also worked at Boston College as a graduate assistant. The Ohio native, played collegiately at Ohio University, and in Italy following his graduation.

Prairie View A&M assistant Noah Croak will join Billy Gillispie’s staff at Tarleton State. Croak had previously been an assistant at Tallahassee CC, where he worked for then head coach Zach Settembre. A few weeks ago, I confirmed that Settembre had been hired as an assistant at Tarleton (TARLETON DIRT). An official announcement on both moves is expected shortly.

D3 Springfield College is down to the final four candidates in their search to replace long-time head coach Charlie Brock. The four finalists are: LIU assistant coach Jim Mack, two current D3 head coaches from Massachusetts, and a JUCO head coach from New Jersey. Surprisingly, Mack is the only Springfield alum to make it this far, and no former assistants made the final group (there were a lot involved).

I have heard that interviews are underway at D2 Bridgeport. Names that I’ve heard are current associate head coach Chris Watts, and a current prep head coach from the area. More on this as I hear it.

It sounds like interviews at JUCO Snow College are wrapping-up today. The names that I’ve heard here are: Dixie State assistant coach Andrew May, current Snow College assistant Ben Cruickshank, a current NWAC head coach, a current JUCO head coach from out of the region, and a local high school coach.

D3 University of the Ozarks wrapped up first-round Zoom interviews last week. Working on that list now.

North Idaho College assistant George Swanson is set to be named as NIC’s women’s head coach this week. Swanson has spent the past eight seasons as an assistant with the men’s program at the school. During his time on head coach Corey Symons staff, the Cardinals have put together a 193-33 record, including a 20-7 (14-2) mark this past year. Swanson is the former head coach at Grays Harbor College, and has also been an assistant at Hardin Simmons University, and Pierce College.

Colby College has added Dennis Tobin as an assistant coach. Last season was Tobin’s first as an assistant at WPI – he spent the two seasons before that on the staff at Suffolk.
