Some "Dirt" to wrap up the week…
• I have heard that Furman DBO Sam Waniewski has departed to become an assistant at Vincennes (IN). He had just wrapped up his first season at Furman, and was the video coordinator at Colorado State before that.
• Earlier this week, I mentioned the staff changes at Hawaii (http://www.hoopdirt.com/blog/cb5d5f24/hawaii-quotdirtquot/…). I can now confirm that former UH assistant Scott Fisher will be named as the new head coach at Ohlone College (CA). Fisher had been at Hawaii for four seasons. Also, as a follow up, apparently there is an NCAA investigation going on at Hawaii, but from what I have been told the departure of Fisher and DBO Chris McMillian are in no way related to that.
• Some names are starting to pop up surrounding the recently vacated Southwest Mississippi CC job. Two of the names that I have heard multiple times are: Junsie Cotton (head coach Panola College) and Jabbar Adams (assistant coach Montevallo). It’s only a week into this search, so I will pass along more names as I hear them.
• Yesterday I mentioned the search at Rhode Island College (http://www.hoopdirt.com/blog/794cbc9e/daily-dirt-5-29-14/…). I said that there were DI assistants going in for interviews this past Wednesday, Thursday, and today. I have now heard that multiple interviews have been scheduled for each of those three days and as many as nine guys will be in. From the list that I have, it sounds like seven are DI assistants, and current DIII head coach. I have no info on the ninth. More as this search progresses.
• I have heard that interviews have also started at Nebraska Wesleyan. Two names that I have heard are MSU Billings assistant Brad Schmit and Arkansas State assistant Jeff Clapacs. They are vying to replace Cam Schuknecht who resigned in April to become an assistant at Luther College (IA).
