Daily Dirt – 5/31/12

Last Daily Dirt for the month of May…

• I have heard from multiple sources that former Holy Cross HC Sean Kearney is involved with an assistant spot at Navy. Kearney went 9-22 in his only season at the helm of the Crusaders (2009-2010). He was also a longtime assistant (and associate head coach) to Mike Brey at Notre Dame and Delaware.

• Some names that have been mentioned as possible replacements for Isaac Chew at Illinois are: Dennis Gates (Florida State assistant), Robert Smith (Chicago Simeon head coach) and Deon Thomas (Lewis & Clark CC head coach – former Illini).

• Raul Placeres, and assistant at Maryville (TN) is believed to be involved with a spot on Tommy Dempsey’s new staff at Binghamton. Placeres played for Dempsey at Keystone JC where they advanced to the NJCAA Division III Final Four in 2002. Before joining the Maryville staff, Placeres was the head coach at Gatlinburg Pittman High School for three seasons.

• I can confirm that Damin Lopez has been named as the head coach at Glendale CC (AZ). Lopez played for his father Dave at GCC in the late 1980’s. He had been a HS coach in the area before accepting the GCC gig.

• Howard Assistant (TX) Justin Einerson has left to become the assistant at Grand View (IA). He had been at Howard for one season and had previously spent three years at Clarke (IA) which is in Grand View’s league.
