The HOT name right now at Maryland Eastern Shore is Winston-Salem State head coach Cleo Hill, Jr. The veteran head coach has been at WSSU for the past five seasons, and also worked at Cheney University and Shaw University. In 17-seasons as a HC, he has gone 261-204 (.561), including an 89-50 (.640) mark during his time at Winston-Salem State. More on this one as I hear it.
South Carolina assistant Tim Buckley is headed to Cincinnati as an assistant. The Big Spur was first with this one. Buckley, who has been on Lamont Paris’ staff since 2022 has also been an assistant at UNLV, Indiana, Marquette, and Iowa. He also worked as the head coach at Ball State (2000-06). Buckley will replace Josh Loeffler, who became the head coach at Loyola Maryland at the end of March.
Pete Quinn has departed the South Carolina State basketball staff. He posted this message on social media. Quinn had been at SCSU since June of 2023, and also spent time as an assistant at Newberry, Pfeiffer, and Belmont Abbey.
East Tennessee State assistant Joe Hugley also announced via social media that he is leaving his position. Prior to his time at ETSU, Hugley spent two seasons as the Director of Player Relations at Wake Forest
Former Rutgers head coach Mike Rice has taken over the program at Linden HS (NJ). Rice went 73-31 (.702) in 3 seasons at Robert Morris before taking over at Rutgers in 2010. He was fired by the Scarlet Knights after his abusive behavior on practice tapes comes to light.
I have heard that Demontrez Austin will become the top assistant at D2 Davis and Elkins College. Austin spent last season as an assistant at Ellsworth CC (IA) and was at Middle Georgia Prep before that. He has also had stints as an assistant at Andrew College and Reinhardt University. An official announcement is expected shortly.
I have heard that on-campus interviews are underway at D3 Mary Baldwin University. Names that I have heard include; Millersville associate head coach Daniel Eacho, Lynchburg assistant Dylan Hall, former Loyola Maryland assistant Matt Miller, and Mary Washington assistant Mark Sansone. Not sure of a time line here, but sounds like it’s now moving quickly.
NJCAA D1 Clarendon College will hire a current NJCAA D2 head coach – will run with it on Tuesday. Stay tuned…
