Daily Dirt – 5/7/12

Here are some things that I heard this weekend…

• East Tennessee State has posted their Director of Basketball Operations position. From what I hear however, the posting is just a formality. Current DBO Andrew Greene is still with the program and I see no reason that he will be replaced. Because the position is now fully funded and benefited, the search must take place. To keep it simple, Greene’s not going anywhere, so don’t waste your time sending a resume!

• NC State staffer Levi Watkins will not be headed to Canisius. Apparently just days after accepting a spot on Jim Baron’s staff, he decided to return to Raleigh. I have heard that his wife is pregnant with and they decided it would be better for them to stay put. I still have not heard any movement on who else will be hired at Canisius. I know that former URI assistant Pat Clarke will be joining Baron, and I have heard grumblings that Mike Mennenga is involved here. Mennenga has been on the staff at Providence, Iowa State, Maine, and most recently UIC.

• Sounds like former College of Charleston assistant Mark Byington met with new Virginia Tech head coach James Johnson on Friday. Word on the street is that his hiring is a done deal – just waiting on approval from the University.

• I have heard that Limestone College (SC) assistant Jake Pickett will be hired as Bo Clark’s assistant at Flagler (FL). Pickett has spent the past three seasons on the staff at Limestone, and was an assistant at Embry-Riddle before that. Pickett would be returning to his native Florida. The announcement is not expected until the end of the month.

• Former Chowan assistant James Simpkins will move to the HS level and take over the program at the Stonebridge School (VA). Simpkins had been at Chowan for two seasons. He has also coached with Boo Williams AAU.
