DAILY DIRT – 5/7/24

Story: Adam Nelson (@HD_DirtKing)

I can confirm that Loyola (MD) head coach Josh Loeffler will add Kevin Farrell to his staff. Farrell has spent the past two seasons as an assistant D2 MSU Denver, and was an assistant at D2 Belmont Abbey before that. Farrell is a Loyola (MD) alum, who served as the Greyhounds DBO for nine seasons – including working with Loeffler when Loeffler was an assistant there (2013-17).

Georgia Southern will add Dion Bethea as an assistant coach. Bethea has spent the past ten seasons as the head coach at Gray Collegiate Academy where he has won 6 class 2A titles. Two of his GCA players will be on the Georgia Southern roster next season.

Belmont assistant Tyler Holloway is on the move, and will be hired as the head coach at Christ Presbyterian Academy in Nashville. Holloway had spent the past fifteen seasons on the Bruins staff, starting as the GA back in 2009 before working his way up to assistant coach *NOTE: This one is now official – more HERE.

In the Daily Dirt on 5/1, I mentioned the search at NAIA Fisk University. I had West Georgia assistant (and former Fisk head coach) Jay Smith on the list, and I’ve now been told to add former Tennessee assistant (and current NAIA Johnson U assistant) Tony Jones, and former Tennessee Wesleyan head coach Ray Stone, Jr. to this one. More names as I hear them.

Also, back in the DD on 5/1, wrote that Bryan College WBB head coach Gabe Johnson was in the mix for the men’s job at NAIA Point University (GA). Sounds like this is now a done deal, with an announcement imminent. In two seasons as the head coach at Bryan, he has gone 52-12 (42-3 AAC). Prior to his time with the women’s program, he served two different stints as an assistant with the men’s team at Bryan. More on this one once it’s made official.
