Daily Dirt – 5/9/12

• I have heard that Pikeville head coach Kelly Wells has withdrawn from consideration for the Morehead State job. It sounds like four who are still in the mix are: Brian Lane (Head Coach Transylvania), Wade O’Connor (Assistant Coach Morehead State), Happy Osbourne (former Georgetown College [KY] Head Coach), and Sean Woods (Head Coach Mississippi Valley State).

• Two sources have told me that VMI assistant is Jack Castleberry is involved with a spot on the WBB staff at Siena. The connection…new Siena WBB coach Ali Jacques’ brother is an assistant lacrosse coach at VMI and a former classmate of Castleberry’s at VMI. After graduating in 2007, Castleberry spent one season on the Tennessee-Martin staff before returning to his alma mater.

• Word on the street is the Nichols College (MA) head coach Dave Sokolnicki has resigned and will enter private business. It sounds like assistant coach Jeff Lindgren will be his replacement. Not sure if that will be on an interim or temporary basis. Lindgren is a Nichols alum who has been on the staff since his graduation.

• Bronx CC has hired Sean Kelly as the new men’s basketball coach. Kelly is the former head coach at Bergen CC where he went to two consecutive NJCAA Final Fours (2009 and 2010).
