Daily Dirt – 5/9/13

It’s been a pretty busy few days in the dirt world…here’s what I have so far today – looks like there will definitely be a Daily Dirt II later today…

• Some names have started making the rounds as possible replacements for Brad Underwood as an assistant on Frank Martin’s staff at South Carolina. The three names that I keep hearing are Perry Clark (former head coach at Miami, Tulane, and Texas A&M–Corpus Christi), BJ McKie (assistant at Charleston Southern and the all-time leading scorer at South Carolina. His son recently signed at S. Carolina), and Dalonte Hill (assistant coach at Maryland, worked for Martin at Kansas State). Some believe that Clark is the leader here.

• The search is moving along at Wabash Valley (IL). Some of the named that I’ve heard there are : Lance Madison (Lamar St-Port Arthur head coach), Rick Herdes (former head coach Southern Indiana), Mike Carpenter (Danville Area CC [IL] head coach), and Jesse Watkins (Coastal Georgia assistant, former Wabash Valley assistant). I still have not heard a timetable as to when a decision will be made.

• It sounds like interviews have begun at St. Thomas Aquinas (NY). Some names that have popped up are: Greg Vetrone (former head coach FDU), John Dwinell (former head coach Concordia [NY]), Jeff Charney (head coach Purchase College [NY]), and Joan Sanchez (head coach Union County College [NJ]).

• St. Thomas Aquinas isn’t the only East Coast Conference school looking for a head coach – Queens College (NY) is searching as well. I have not heard any names here, but I have heard their timeline. Apparently a group of coaches was selected to answer six questions. They will then all be vetted, and trimmed down to a group that will be offered phone interviews (sometime next week). That group will then be cut down and three or four candidates will be brought to campus in early June. More on this when I hear some names.

• Multiple sources have reported that Mt. Ida College (MA) is down to four finalists. The final group will finish interviews this week, and a new coach could be named as early as next week. I’ve also heard that the job is moving from part-time to full-time
