A lot of things going on – BUSY day already! Here’s what I’ve heard…
- Spoke to a great source last night about possible assistants for Al Skinner at Kennesaw State. Two names that were mentioned were Michael Cotton and Carlton Owens. Cotton played for Skinnner at Boston College and is currently an assistant at NC Central. He has also worked at Bucknell and Rider. “Silk” Owens (one of my favorites to watch as a kid), is the all-time leading scorer at URI. After his career overseas wrapped-up, he worked at St. Peter’s, Albany, Texas, and Nebraska. It sounds like none of the current KSU assistants will be retained.
- I have heard that Longwood will hire Cody Anderson as their new Director of Basketball Operations. Anderson has spent the past four seasons as a student manager to Mark Fox at Georgia.
- It sounds like the search to replace Cleo Hill, Jr. at DII Shaw University (NC) is about to wrap-up. The “hot” name here is actually former Shaw head coach Joel Hopkins. He was the coach there 2000-2003 and compiled a 63-24 record. Hopkins was also the head coach at Mt. Zion Academy, where he coached Tracy McGrady among others.
- The search at Washington College (MD) is down to four. There were twelve coaches interviewed via Skype, and the final four will be wrapping up on-campus interviews this week. Two names that I have heard are current Washington College assistant Kevin Breslin, and Navy assistant Aaron Goodman. Breslin is the 6th all-time leading scorer at WC (1,517 points), and played for the Washington Generals for two seasons after graduation. Goodman has been at Navy for the past 10 seasons – before that, he worked as a DIII assistant at Marymount (Va).
- Harrisburg Area CC (PA) has hired David Archer as their new head coach. Archer has been a HS coach in he area for the past few seasons. He also spent three seasons as an assistant at Penn State Harrisburg. Look for the official announcement shortly.
- I can confirm that Jimmy Watkins has been named as the interim head coach for the 2015-16 season at Prince Georges CC (MD). He has spent the past nine seasons as an assistant to former PGCC head coach Xavier Joyner.
