Daily Dirt – 5/15/15

Busy Friday here at HD….here are a bunch of things that I’ve heard…

  • Sounds like there’s some movement on the administrative staff at Northern Arizona.  I have heard that Director of Basketball Operations Landon Cosby has departed.  He joined the NAU staff in 2014 after spending three seasons as an assistant at Salt Lake CC.  It sounds like NAU technology and scouting assistant Josh Kreibich will be bumped up to the DBO spot.  He also came to NAU before last season, and was an assistant at Concordia (TX) before that.  Finally, I have heard that graduate assistant Brandon Chappell will be elevated to an administrative position – he will either keep Kreibich’s title, or assume the role of recruiting coordinator.
  • I can confirm that Hunter College (NY) head coach Shay Berry has resigned to pursue other opportunities.  Berry was also the Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities & Operations at Hunter.  I have heard that the search will begin shortly and the word is that they are looking for candidates with athletic administration backgrounds and head coaching experience at the collegiate level especially in an urban community.  Sounds like Berry left the cupboard pretty full on the basketball side, so it’s a pretty good gig.
  • Multiple sources are telling me this morning that South Georgia Tech will hire Travis Garrett as their next head coach.  I first mentioned Garrett as a candidate here back on April 26th (Sunday Dirt – 4/26/15).  Garrett spent this past season as an assistant at South Carolina State.  He has also been the head coach at USC Salkehatchie (2007-2014), and at Clinton JC (2005-2007).  Garrett has had other DI stops at DI assis Northeastern and Bethune-Cookman.  It sounds like the official announcement could come as early as today.
  • I have now heard from multiple sources that American International College (MA) assistant Joe Krupinski will become the head coach at St. Catharine College (KY).  Krupinski spent six seasons as the head coach at Lyndon State (VT) before joining the AIC staff prior to last season.  He also spent seven seasons as an assistant at St. Michael’s College (VT).
