A busy day so far in the "dirt" world. Here’s what I’ve got…
• Multiple sources are reporting that former Nebraska head coach Doc Sadler will join Bill Self’s staff at Kansas. He would reportedly replace Barry Hinson as the DBO. Hinson became the head coach at Southern Illinois back in April. Sadler has been the head coach at both Nebraska (101-89 6 seasons) and UTEP (48-18 2 seasons). The official announcement could come as early as today.
• I reported on 5/11/12 that I had heard that New Heights AD Kimani Young was involved with a spot on Richard Pitino’s staff at Florida International (http://hoopdirt.com/blog/5c276a5e/daily-dirt-5-11-12/… ). Now, multiple sources are reporting it’s a done deal. Young has been with New Heights in NYC since 2006 and has spent time on the staff at St. John’s under Norm Roberts. He scored 1,023 points in three seasons playing for Don Haskins at UTEP.
• Another follow-up…back on 4/12/12, I said that I had heard former Canisius head coach Tom Parrotta would be heading to Fordham as an assistant (http://hoopdirt.com/blog/96b1d9b5/daily-dirt-ii-4-12-12/…). I can now confirm that he will be joining Tom Pecora’s staff there. Parrotta is a Fordham alum and worked under Pecora as an assistant at Hofstra from 2001-2006. He went 64-121 in his six seasons at Canisius.
• I have heard from multiple sources that Newberry College (SC) has hired UNC Charlotte DBO Rob Perron as an assistant. Perron spent two stints as an assistant at Pfeiffer College (2000-02 and 2005-06) under head coach Dave Davis who is now the head coach at Newberry. Perron also spent three seasons as the head coach at his alma mater St. Andrews University (NC).
• Two separate sources have reported movement on the staff at Robert Morris. I’m still waiting for confirmation, but sounds like there will be an assistant spot open. More to come on this one…
• I can confirm that Bert Capel has been hired as an assistant at Jacksonville College (TX). Capel had been a graduate manager at Florida State (2009-12). Before that, he was an assistant at his alma mater Evangel University (MO). He was a member of Evangel’s 2002 NAIA DII National Championship squad.
• Marty Birky has accepted a spot on the staff at Imperial Valley College (CA). He had been a GA at Montana State – Billings for the past two seasons.
• On Monday I mentioned some potential candidates at UW-Oshkosh (http://hoopdirt.com/blog/a8ad48ac/daily-dirt-6-11-12/…). The search seems to be moving along pretty quickly now. One candidate that I mentioned – UW-Whitewater assistant Lou Chapman is not involved with the gig. He will remain as an assistant at Whitewater next season. A few other names have popped up – I will update the list shortly.
