Today’s dirt…

• I can confirm that Nate Oats will join Bobby Hurley’s staff at Buffalo. Oats has been the head coach at Romulus HS (MI) for the last 11 seasons and won his second State Championship this past year. He was previously an assistant at Wisconsin Whitewater and Maranatha College (WI).

• I have heard that Henderson State has hired Damon Francis as an assistant. He was most recently an assistant at Fairleigh Dickinson and has also worked at Missouri State-West Plains and Ouachita Baptist University.

• I can also confirm that South Dakota State has hired Joe Krabbenhoft as an assistant. The former Wisconsin player spent time playing in the NBA D-League and spent last season working as a video coordinator at his alma mater. The official announcement is expected today.

• I mentioned earlier this week that Wayne State head coach Paul Combs was offered the Carroll (WI) job (http://www.hoopdirt.com/blog/5c933531/daily-dirt-6-12-13/…). I have now heard from a great source that he has turned it down. No word if it has, or will be offered to the other finalist, UW Stevens Point assistant Kent Dernbach.

• Word on the street is that Kelley Newton will be the next head coach at Kansas City Kansas CC. He was part of the original list of candidates that I posted earlier this month (http://hoopdirt.com/blog/5e71bc85/daily-dirt-6-4-13/…). Newton was the women’s coach at Neosho County CC and had been a men’s assistant before that. He is a Kansas City Native who played for Kelvin Sampson at Oklahoma.
