Somethings that I heard over the weekend…
• Word on the street is that Southern assistant Ryan Price is departing and will become an assistant at Prairie View A&M. Price had been at Southern since 2011 and has also worked at Arkansas-Ft. Smith, Henderson State, and Gannon. He is the son of current Lamar head coach Tic Price.
• I have heard that former Cal video coordinator Matt Scherbenske has become an assistant at Central Arkansas. He spent the past two years at Cal, and was the DBO at The Citadel before that. Scherbenske was a walk-on at Kentucky who graduated in 2010.
• The search to replace Justin Wieck at the University of Jamestown seems to have gotten down to the final four. I have heard that the four candidates will all be brought in for on-campus interviews within the next week or so. Two names that I have heard so far are current Jamestown assistant Danny Neville and Metro State assistant Taylor Harris. I have a great source on this one, and hope to have the other two names shortly.
• I have heard that Ed Newton will be named as the new head coach at Rust College (MS). Newton is a Rust College alum who has been out of coaching for the past four seasons. He was previously head coach LeMoyne Owen College (2007-09). Newton also spent time as an assistant at McPherson College (KS). Look for an official announcement here shortly.
• Milton Stith will be re-joining recently rehired Head Coach Doug Stotler at Lewis & Clark Community College. Stith was on staff with Stotler from 2004-2009 at L&C, and also spent one season there under former head coach Deon Thomas (who departed this spring to become an assistant at UIC). Stith left L&C in 2010 and became the Head Coach at St.Louis Community College at Forest Park. He has spent the past three years as the Associate Head Coach /Director of Scouting with the St.Louis Trotters Semi Professional team of the IBA.
