Catching-up on a bunch of things…

I have heard that new San Diego head coach Steve Lavin will add Ryan Devlin to his staff as an assistant coach. Devlin had spent the past three seasons on the staff at George Washington, and was not retained when Jamion Christian was let go at the end of the season. Devlin also worked for Christian at Siena, and had worked with the Albany City Rocks (AAU).

Rian Stubbs will join the staff at UTEP in an administrative role, most likely as the Chief of Staff. He had spent the past two years at New Mexico State, serving first as the Chief of Staff, and later as the video coordinator. Stubbs, who has also been the head coach at Lamar CC (CO), will replace Bryen Spriggs who was elevated to assistant coach after Butch Pierre departed for Wichita State.

Wofford Special Assistant to the Head Coach Tyler Strange has resigned and will become the Director of Basketball Operations for Mass Elite (AAU). Strange had been at Wofford for the past two seasons, and served as an assistant at NAIA Montreat College before that. The Massachusetts native was a four-year started at Gardner-Webb.

I teased this one on Twitter earlier – can’t say much more for now, but a really good D2 JUCO is opening. The head coach is taking an administrative spot on a D1 staff. Should be able to roll with it in a few days.

For all of the coaches who recruit the New England Preps, a few NEPSAC moves…

  • D3 Bates College assistant Ronnie Turner has departed and will become the new head coach at Pomfret (CT). Before joining the Bates staff, Turner was the head coach at Lewiston HS, and an assistant at Lee Academy.
  • Greens Farms Academy (CT) has hired JJ Hoffstein as their new boy’s basketball coach. He had spent the past two years as a women’s assistant at D3 Vassar College

Patrick Beilein has been hired as the head coach at Baldwinsville HS (NY). Beilein, the son of veteran head coach John Beilein, was the head coach at D2 LeMoyne from 2015-19 and D2 West Virginia Wesleyan from 2012-14. He also spent seven months as the head coach at Niagara back in 2019, but resigned before ever coaching a game there. He spent last season with the Syracuse Stallions (TBL).

D2 West Florida assistant coach Evan Wyllie has departed an has become the head coach at Lincoln-Way Central High School (IL). Wyllie had been at UWF for the past three seasons, and was a HS basketball coach in his home state of Illinois before that.

D3 Eastern University will add Frederick LaGarde III to their staff as a graduate assistant. He spent last season on the staff at La Salle as a GA, and has also worked for the Hoop Group.
