A bunch of things happening today…

• It sounds like Illinois head coach John Groce will hire former Illinois State assistant Paris Parham. Before spending the past five seasons on the staff at ISU, Parham was a very successful HS and AAU coach in Chicago. He is also a Chicago native who will bring legit city ties to the Illini. He beat out two or three other finalists for the spot. One of them was Nebraska DBO Ron Coleman – another Chicago guy.

• Staying in Champaign, IL…..I can confirm that Parkland College (Champaign, IL) has hired Anthony Figueroa as their new head basketball coach. He will replace Nate Mast who joined that staff at Southern Illinois earlier this month. Figueroa was most recently the head coach at St. Thomas More HS (IL). He has also been an assistant at Milliken University (IL).

• I have heard that Hoop Group staffer Zak Boisvert is involved with a spot on the staff at Iona. There are currently two openings at Iona – assistant Mark Calzonetti departed for LIU last week, and DBO Bob Paul became the head coach at Chaminade HS (NY) earlier this month. Boisvert is a former manager at Fordham and had previously been a staffer at Iona (2010-11). **UPDATE: The two spots at Iona are now filled!**

• It sounds like former Dodge City CC head coach Brady Trenkle is involved with an assistant spot on Rand Chappell’s new staff at Garden City CC. Trenkle resigned at Dodge City back in March. He compiled a 71-54 record during his four years there, including a 20-12 record this past season.

• I have heard that Dustin Alpert will become the graduate assistant at Texas-Pan American. Alpert has been an assistant at Pfeiffer College (NC) and Menlo College (CA).
