A bunch of stuff happening – sounds like it will be a pretty active week on the "dirt" front…
• Last week I mentioned that former Holy Cross HC Sean Kearney was in the running for a spot on the staff at Navy. I’ve now heard that he is one of three to fill the spot vacated by Kurt Kanaskie (departed for Virginia Tech). The others names that I’ve heard are former Colgate head coach Emmitt Davis, and Missouri’s Ernie Nestor (formerly an assistant to Navy HC Ed DeChellis at Penn State). It sounds like all three met with DeChellis late last week, and the hiring is expected shortly.
• Multiple sources have told me that former Iowa and Butler head coach Todd Lickliter will become the new head coach at Marian University (IN). Lickliter has compiled a 169-119 record as a DI head coach, including 131-61 in his six seasons at Butler. He was most recently an assistant at Miami (OH). It sounds like the other finalist for the job was former Purdue basketball player Brandon Brantley.
• I have heard from two separate sources that Friends Central HS (PA) head coach Jason Polykoff is involved with a spot on Jerome Allen’s staff at Penn. Polykoff is a 2006 graduate of Haverford. I’m not sure if he is involved with the paid or unpaid spot at Penn.
• In a blog last week, I said that Iona assistant Mark Calzonetti was involved with a position at LIU. He’s not the only Iona assistant possibly on the move. I’ve heard that Iona DBO Bob Paul will become the head coach at Chaminade HS (NY). Paul is a Chaminade alum who served as an assistant there from 2000-2008. He has also worked with the Long Island Lightning AAU.
• From a great source…Jesse Wukasch will become the new assistant coach at Bethany College (WVa). He will replace Adam May who has taken the position of Head Boy’s Basketball Coach at Riverside HS (OH). Wukasch spent this past season as the video coordinator at Southern Mississippi for Larry Eustachy. He has also volunteered at U. of Memphis with Josh Pastner and the University of New Orleans with Joe Pasternak. The Memphis, TN native is a 2007 graduate of Belhaven University (TN) where he played for four years. This past year Bethany went 25-4 and set a school record for victories in a season.
• Mark Hedger has been named Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Mo. He is a former high school head coach in Richland, Mo and has been in school administration for the past 7 years.
