Daily Dirt – 6/6/11

Some buzz from the weekend….

I listed the three finalists for the Alaska-Fairbanks job last week – Alaska-Anchorage coach WBB coach Tim Moser, former Western Oregon head coach Craig Stanger, and New Mexico State assistant Mick Durham (follow link for more info on each candidate: http://hoopdirt.com/blog/690aa2ee/alaska-fairbanks-finalists…). I also said that I heard that Moser was the choice, but has turned it down. I can now confirm that – Tim Moser will be staying at Anchorage. That leaves Stanger and Dunham. Not sure which way the committee is leaning, but I expect a decision sometime this week.

I mentioned a few weeks ago that former Vermont standout Maurice "Mojo" Joseph was close to joining the staff at UVM as the DBO. It looks like that’s not going to happen – word is that he will follow his former coach Mike Lonergan to George Washington. It sounds like he will assume the DBO duties at GW instead of at Vermont.

I’ve heard that Drake assistant Kareem Richardson is involved with a spot at Xavier. Richardson has been at Drake since 2008 and has also worked at UMKC, Evansville, and Indiana State.

Another assistant on the move….former Navy assistant Ron Ginyard will join the staff at Niagara. Ginyard was on the staff at the Citadel before heading to Navy in 2008.

Sounds like Texas A&M Commerce associate head coach Jason Burton is in the mix for an assistant position at Texas State. He would replace Terrance Rencher who departed for Tulsa earlier this spring.

Corey Lowery will take over the program at Essex Community College (NJ). Lowery was previously the head coach at Middlesex CC (NJ). He turned MCC into a NJCAA power before stepping aside before last season.
