A bunch of things that I’ve heard…
According to multiple reports, including one from All Sooners, Oklahoma will add former Marist and James Madison head coach Matt Brady to their staff as an assistant coach. Brady had been on the staff at Maryland since 2017. He has also been an assistant at La Salle, St Joe’s, Wagner, and URI. In 12-seasons as a D1 head coach, Brady went 211–175 (.547).
I have heard that Amherst assistant coach Jesse Flannery will join the staff at Army. Last season was his first at Amherst – he was a graduate assistant at VCU before that. More on this one soon.
Austin “AB” Burnette has been hired at North Alabama as the Director of Player Development. Burnette has most recently been an assistant at Hargrave Military Academy, and has also been an assistant at D2 North Georgia, and a graduate assistant at FIU.
A bunch of graduate assistant hirings…
-Jordan Bailey has been hired as a GA at Missouri. He has been an assistant at D2 Ouachita Baptist since 2018, and also spent one season as the DBO at Central Arkansas.
-Nolan Meehan is headed to Quinnipiac as a GA. He spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach at D3 Western Connecticut. Meehan is a former manager at Villanova, and had previously worked with QU head coach Baker Dunleavy there.
-Dom Samangy has joined the Arkansas basketball staff as a GA. He was most recently the head manager at Syracuse.
-Adam Howard has been promoted to GA on Mike Woodson’s staff at Indiana. He has spent the past four seasons as a manager for the Hoosiers.
-Kelton Williams has been added as the GA at D2 Central Washington. The Renton, WA native recently played at Park University (AZ) and Pacific Lutheran University (WA).
Long-time D1 assistant coach David Grace has been hired as the head coach at Peoria Centennial HS (AZ). Grace was most recently the associate head coach at Vanderbilt, and has also been an assistant at Cal, UCLA, Oregon State, San Francisco, and Sacramento State. Grace had previously coached at the HS level in Arizona, leading South Mountain High School to the 2005-06 Division 5A-2 State Championship.
Word on the street is that current South Plains assistant Hayden Sowers is the leader to replace Steve Green as the Texans head coach. Last year was Sower’s first season on Green’s staff at SPC – he worked as a GA at Ole Miss, and as an assistant at both Pearl River CC and Massanutten Military Academy. This could be a done deal by the end of the week. **UPDATE: It’s official – Sowers has been named as the new head coach at SPC. More HERE.
D3 SUNY Oneonta will hire Tom Doran as an assistant coach. Doran, a recent Wake Forest grad, worked as manager for the Demon Deacons under both Danny Manning and Steve Forbes. An official announcement is coming soon.
D2 Belmont Abbey is naming their new head coach today. Stay tuned…**CORRECTION – got my D2’s mixed up – D2 University of Montevallo announcing today, not Belmont Abbey. I believe I have the name – sounds like a D2 assistant. Will confirm shortly. **UPDATE: It’s Alabama Huntsville assistant Anthony Komara. More HERE.
