Daily Dirt – 6/8/11

Word on the street is that former Texas A&M assistant Pooh Williamson is the front runner for an assistant spot on the staff at SMU. Williamson had been at A&M since 2007, and has also been an assistant at Wichita State, Tulsa, Tulane, Illinois State, and Washington State.

I’ve heard that Maine assistant Chris Markwood is involved at fellow America East school Vermont. Markwood is a Maine alum who has been on the staff for the past four seasons. Sounds like the Vermont spot is a better paying gig than the one he has now.

Louisville assistant Richard Pitino is NOT a candidate at Boston University. He just returned to his father’s staff at Louisville (from Florida), and will remain there for at least two seasons.

Paine College has hired Grant Leonard as an assistant coach. He has also worked at Texas-Pan American, Flagler, and Washington College. Also, Butch Beard will return as an assistant at Paine under head coach Jimmy Link.

My source tells me that Alaska-Fairbanks assistant Eric Stang will be retained by new head coach Mick Durham. He and Dunham are both Montana guys.

Speaking of Montana (and who really speaks of Montana)……..Montana GA Kurt Paulson has become the head coach at Big Fork HS (MT). Paulson had been an assistant at Carroll College before his stint at Montana.
