Daily Dirt – 6/8/12

The DirtKing will be away from the HoopDirt World Headquarters today – I’m headed on a field trip to the Federal Courthouse with one of my kids (maybe they’ll keep him there – it will save a lot of time and energy in the future). Here’s an early edition of the “Daily Dirt”….

• Now that Ernie Nestor has departed for Navy, the leader to replace him on Frank Haith’s staff at Missouri is former DePaul and Virginia head coach Dave Leitao. The former long-time UConn assistant has spent the past two seasons as the head coach of the Maine Red Claws (D-League). He owns a 143-129 career DI record (Depaul, UVa, Northeastern).

• I can confirm that Endicott College assistant coach Rich Fazzi will become the next head coach at Dean College (MA). Fazzi has been on Phil Rowe’s staff at Endicott for the past two seasons, winning a league title this past year. He has also been an assistant at Suffolk University and Newbury College.

• Crazy stuff coming out of Southern Poly…I mentioned the four finalists yesterday (http://hoopdirt.com/blog/c53a691d/daily-dirt-6-7-12/…) and figured current head coach Tommy Dillon to be a shoe-in for the gig. I’ve now heard from three separate sources that the choice will be Reinhardt College head coach Jeff Pourchier. I wasn’t sure how legit my sources were, then yesterday afternoon, Reinhardt posted Pourchier’s job (http://hoopdirt.com/job/d906aa26/head-coach-reinhardt-univer…). I’ve also heard that Dillon will be encouraged to interview with Pourchier for a spot on the staff. Rough way to treat a National Coach of the Year contender!

• Jones County JC head coach Bubba Skelton is out and reportedly headed back to Northwest Mississippi CC. In four seasons at JCJC, Skelton went 68-38 record including a championship in 2008-2009. He was the head coach at Northwest from 1998-2006.
