Longtime Northeastern Staffer Retiring After Six Decades in the Game
Northeastern Coordinator of Basketball Advancement Tom Murphy is retiring after more than 60 years in college basketball. The long-time head coach at Hamilton (1970-2004), had been on Bill Coen’s staff at Northeastern for the past 19 seasons. During his tenure at Hamilton, Murphy compiled a 602-263 record, led the Continentals to 30 postseason berths and had 16 seasons of 20 or more wins.
Pac-12 Ops Staffer Headed to D2 Minnesota State Moorhead
Sean Suchomel, who had spent the past two seasons as the Director of Basketball Operations at Washington State, has taken an assistant job at D2 Minnesota State Moorhead. Suchomel also spent two seasons on the staff at Eastern Washington, and played at Wisconsin La Crosse (where new MSUM head coach Jason Kemp also played).
NJCAA D1 Head Coach Possibly on the Move
Word on the street is that Otero College (NJCAA D1) head coach Sammy Coleman is on the move, and will join Jon Trilli’s new staff at D2 Midwestern State (TX). Coleman has been the head coach at Otero since 2022, and was an assistant at the school before that. He has also worked as an assistant at Colin College, and spent time coaching at the grassroots level.
On-Campus Interviews Underway at D3 Colby
On-campus interviews are underway at D3 Colby College. Names that I have heard include Belmont associate head coach Sean Rutigliano, Holy Cross assistant coach Bryson Johnson, Brown assistant Sam Hershberger, a current D3 head coach who has interviewed for at least 2 other high academic D3 jobs this off season, and possibly one more current D3 head coach from New England. Not sure on the timeline, but I can confirm guys were on campus on Friday and Monday.
D3 Wentworth Search Stalls After Finalist Interviews
The search at D3 Wentworth is an odd one. A few weeks ago, I mentioned the finalists: Jack Barrett – assistant coach Johns Hopkins (played at Wentworth), Mike Mailhot – assistant coach Chicago (played at nearby Emmanuel College), Tyler Papadinis – assistant coach Bowdoin (former associate head coach at MIT), Riley Naclerio – assistant coach WPI, and Jason Chornyei – assistant coach Stevens Tech. This one was supposed to be wrapped up a while ago, with candidates being notified at least 10 days ago. Not sure what the delay is – assuming it will be done any day now, but it has been an odd pause. More here as soon as I find out.
D3 Schreiner Search Appears to Be Wrapped Up
It sounds like the search at D3 Schreiner has wrapped up – just waiting for the official announcement. I have heard that a lot of small college assistants were involved here. A hot name making the rounds is UT Dallas assistant Kyle McLeroy. Working on more names as we speak – stay tuned…
Mohawk Valley Finalists Starting to Emerge
The search at NJCAA Mohawk Valley is winding down. I have heard that there were close to 100 applicants for this one (Mohawk won the NJCAA D3 National Championship last season). I have heard that two former D1 head coaches were in the mix, as well as an assistant from the NEC, and a D2 assistant from New England. Working to confirm the finalists.
