A bunch of things to close out the week…

I can confirm that the Director of Basketball Operations spot at Towson is open. Former DBO Jordan Malkin has departed the staff for a spot in the sports industry outside of coaching. He had been on the Tigers staff for the past two seasons.

Josh Pelletier is no longer an assistant UMBC. Pelletier, who had a long stint as an assistant at Albany, had also worked with UMBC head coach Jim Ferry at both LIU and Duquesne. Word on the street is that a current prep HC with ties to Ferry is the leader for the open spot. More on this one soon.

Ahmad Dorsett is no longer the associate head coach at North Carolina A&T. The veteran coach had been at NC A&T since 2018, and also had stops at High Point, Mount St. Mary’s, Bowie State, Mount Olive, and Longwood. No word yet on a replacement.

I have heard from great sources that Ryan Hellenthal is the leader for the open DBO spot at SIUE. Hellenthal had spent the past five seasons as the head coach at D2 Quincy University. He has also worked at Long Beach State, Boise State, and Central Missouri.

Texas A&M Corpus Christi bumped up Kevin Jewell from video coordinator to DBO. Last season was his first with the Islanders – he was the DBO at Omaha before that. He replaces Donald Reyes who became the head coach at Loyola (NO) back in early June.

It sounds like the open assistant spot at rising D1 Southern Indiana is down to two – a current D2 assistant and a current JUCO assistant (interim HC?) in the area. More on this one soon.

I have heard that former Vanderbilt graduate assistant Peter Thaus will be hired as a full-time assistant at D3 Concordia University Chicago. Before his time at Vandy, Thaus spent three seasons as an assistant at UW-Oshkosh. An official announcement is coming shortly.

Alexander Loul Syum has been hired as the head coach at Mt. Hood CC (OR). He had previously been an assistant at Clackamas CC. No official release from Mt. Hood yet though.

Word on the street is that the leader at NJCAA Cleveland CC (NC) is Greyson Pierce, the head coach at Kings Mountain HS (NC). Cleveland CC is starting a basketball program that will begin competition in 2023-24. An announcement on the hiring is expected shortly.
