A few things that I heard while out watching games this weekend…

• I have heard that Rodell Davis is no longer on the staff at Loyola (Chicago). Last season was his first at Loyola and he had spent the previous three at Providence. I’ve heard from two separate people that Loyola HC Porter Moser may bump up Rick Malnati who spent last season as the special assistant/advisor to the head coach. Before joining the Loyola staff, Malnati was a highly successful HS coach at New Trier (IL).

• It sounds like Ryan Mattocks will land as an assistant at VMI. Mattocks has most recently been covering HS basketball for MaxPreps. He would replace Jack Castleberry who departed in the spring for a spot on the women’s staff at Siena.

• Ed Huckaby is turning Fishburne Military Academy (VA) into a prep power! I’ve heard that he has narrowed his search for an assistant down to 5 (from close to 90 applicants). The final 5 are all guys with college experience. They are: Brian Benator (DBO, UT-Chattanooga), Anthony Leonelli (Assistant Coach, WPI), Denny Mortimer (Assistant Coach, Bridgeport), Ian Gibson (Former GA, VCU), and Jack Trainer (Head Coach Clay HS [OH] former DI Assistant). There should be a decision made soon.
