Daily Dirt – 7/31/12

Today’s "dirt"…

•I can confirm that Aerick Sanders has been hired as an assistant at Montana State. He is a San Diego State alum who has been playing overseas since graduation. He will replace Temesghen Starr who took a fund-raising position at Montana State earlier this spring.

• Bryan Weber has been hired as the graduate assistant at the University of Miami. He spent last season in a similar role under Keith Dambrot at Akron. Prior to his experience at Akron, he was a HS assistant at Glen Oak and Green High Schools (OH). He also coached AAU basketball for Shooting Stars and DB Hoops which are both based in Northeast Ohio.

• Yesterday I mentioned that Dave Calloway and Justin Potts had both turned down the Georgian Court (NJ) job (http://hoopdirt.com/blog/ab9055c2/daily-dirt-7-30-12/…). Two new names have now surfaced…I have heard that former Berkeley College assistant coach Billy Diamond and current Bakersfield (CA) head coach Rich Hughes are in the mix. I have heard that there will be at least two interviews this week, with the possibility of more to follow. Not sure how long this process will take to complete.

• It sounds like Pfeiffer University will hire Steven Enright and Shawn McCullion as assistants. Enright was most recently an assistant at Mt. Ida College (MA). McCullion was an assistant at Newberry College (SC) for the past two years, and was a long-time assistant at his alma mater Emerson College (MA).

• Speaking of Mt. Ida College…it appears that former Mt. Ida player Joe Cabral (the son of Mt. Ida head coach Rico Cabral) has landed as an assistant at Dean College (MA). Cabral recently graduated from MIC – this is his first coaching gig.
