College coaches moving on to take high school jobs has been a popular theme over the past few days. Here are some guys that are headed to the prep level….
Former Tennessee assistant Tony Jones has taken over as the head coach at Alcoa HS (TN). Jones spent 18 seasons at the college level and filled in as the interim head coach at Tennessee last season during Bruce Pearl’s 18-game suspension. He will also teach physical education and health classes at the school.
I’ve also heard that University of Tennessee-Chattanooga assistant Jay Bowen has resigned to take the job at the Cambridge Christian School in Tampa (FL). He will also become the Athletic Director in addition to his basketball duties. UTC DBO Brian Benator will take Bowen’s place on the road this summer with a full-time replacement expected to be hired by August 1st.
Central Michigan University assistant coach Keith Noftz has been offered the job at McKinley HS (OH). His hiring has been recommended to the Board of Education and now he is just waiting for approval. Noftz had been at CMU since 2006. He was also an assistant at Bowling Green and Evansville.
Mike Plansky, the former head coach at DIII schools Endicott College and Salve Regina, will assume the head coaching duties at Dedham (MA) HS. He spent the past year as the AD at Dedham and will continue in that role as well. He was 116-49 (.703) in his six seasons as a head coach. He was also an assistant at at Brandeis, Iowa and St. Michael’s.
