Daily Dirt – 7/8/11

Here a few things that I heard while on the road last night….

Texas State will name Mark Berokoff as the new Director of Operations. He was an assistant at Hill College (TX) last season. In 10 seasons as a HS coach in California, he compiled a 225-77 record.

Lincoln Christian HS (OK) boys basketball coach Teddy Owens is leaving to become a graduate assistant coach for new Oklahoma coach Lon Kruger. Owens is the son of former Kansas head coach Ted Owens who coached the Jayhawks to two Final Four appearances from 1964-1983. The younger Owens went 48-27 in 3 seasons at Lincoln Christian.

Matthew Healing will accept the full-time assistant coaching position at DIII Vassar College (NY). Healing was a volunteer at Vassar in 09-10 before spending the 10-11 as an assistant coach at Centenary College (NJ). The official announcement is expected shortly.

DIII Wentworth has hired former Boston College standout Danya Abams as an assistant. Abrams scored over 2,000 points and grabbed over 1,000 rebounds during his career at The Heights. He also played professionally for 12 seasons (Greece and Spain) after graduation.

Matt Dennis will take the reigns at Kalamazoo Valley CC. He replaces Dick Shilts who led KVCC for the past 32-years (650 wins). Dennis had been an assistant at KVCC in the early 2000’s.
